Over the past few years toilet seats have been revolutionised. From novelty to designer seats, Splash Direct have the toilet seat for you to stamp your personality on. A toilet seat need not be boring, so choosing a seat that will tie in with the rest of your bathroom décor is fun and as important as your choice of taps. With such a variety available, there are some important points to note.
Style & Design
For existing bathrooms, replacing the toilet seat is an ideal opportunity
for you to stamp your mark, whether you’re a fun loving person and opt
for a novelty seat or a more reserved character and choose a plain coloured
seat. Wooden seats are ideal to suit a more traditional bathroom look;
darker mahogany will give a more regency appeal, while pine will evoke
a rustic, country look. White, Meanwhile, is your sensible choice when
trying to harmonise with a clean, modern, minimalist look. Or maybe the
innovative ‘family seat’ with its practical two in one design will be a
winner for the whole family.
Sizing
Before making your purchase, choosing the correct size seat is a must to
save any disappointment. There are three crucial dimensions: the width
and length of your pan (or existing seat if easier) and the fixing hole
centres. Using a tape, measure the overall length and width of your existing
seat and ensure they match that of the seat you are interested in – don’t
be too worried if they don’t match exactly, as a 10-20mm discrepancy will
be fine. Don’t forget, if it doesn’t fit, all of our toilet seats can be
returned according to our returns policy.
The next step is to measure the distance between the centres of the two holes on your pan. This can vary, depending on your toilet, from as low as 100mm up to 240mm. All our seats have variable hinges, but make sure you check the product’s specification to ensure it will suit your pan.
Hinge Types
An efficient toilet seat hinge is important to ensure longevity of use, and
everyday wear and tear. With a vast array of hinge types and finishes,
you’re spoilt for choice. From standard chrome hinges to duroplastic soft
close hinges, or maybe even a gold traditional hinge, we have you covered.
The soft close hinge is fast becoming a must, with its slow release hinges
eliminating those moments when a toilet seat crashes down on you!
Hinge fixings can vary from the standard nut and bolt fixing which is most commonly found to the top fix (or hidden fixing as sometimes known), whereby the hinge is fitted by tightening two screws at the top. The top fix hinge is largely used when there is no access to the underside of the fixings, such as with the back to wall pan situation.
Buying bathroom suites is an exciting opportunity to make your bathroom look modern and like something from a catalogue. Of course if you're in a big family this pristine new look is unlikely to last very long, but while it does you can be sure to impress guests and family members and enjoy a life of luxury.
The first thing to choose is the colour, and here white bathroom suites tend to come up trumps. The advantages of white bathroom suites are that they help the room to look more spacious and 'clean' (something you always want to promote in the bathroom) and achieve the modern minimalistic look that is currently so popular. The downsides to white bathroom suites are that they can be slightly trickier to maintain, and show mould and dirt more easily. Alternative options that will still give the fairly modern look are grey, wooden or silver - cream and green should generally be avoided as they look old fashioned and are only really at home in the houses of retired pensioners. White bathroom suites remain the top favourite however and as long as they can occasionally rubbed down with some bathroom mousse they'll sparkle like no others.
Now that you've chosen the colour of your bathroom suites however you need to choose the actual items themselves. Of course you'll need a toilet, a sink and a bath, and you can also opt for a free standing shower enclosure for a really modern feeling bathroom that's also practical and tidy to use. These allow you to step in and out of your shower without having to climb into the bath and give you more space to get washed and dried. As well as fitting with the minimalist design that's currently the prevailing look, this also means less water on the carpet or tiles while you dry and less condensation while you wash. This will in turn mean that the bathroom stays looking newer for longer, and that the windows, ceiling and tiles don't become mouldy as quickly.
Other options when choosing a bathroom suit are the type of bath, and here you can opt for either a round or long bath as well as additional features such as a Jacuzzi option. Things like this make a fun gimmick if you have the disposable cash and will both impress and be fun and relaxing to use - there's nothing quite like relaxing in a Jacuzzi after a hard day's work (be careful however as leaving them without using them or cleaning them as the jets can become mouldy too over time).
In terms of the taps and plug holes there are also now many different options and again the desired look is minimal. Single or hidden taps work well and there are all manner of fancy options. Flushes too can now be hidden as pedals or buttons for a truly minimalist as well as hygienic approach. For those looking for a more traditional look however they may opt for silver or bronze taps, so long as the design is consistent throughout the bathroom suite.
